MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Del Webb, the nation’s leading builder of active adult communities, has announced the grand opening of its new resort-style amenity center at Del Webb Southern Harmony, marking a major milestone for the 55+ community.

The newly completed amenity complex features a 21,516-square-foot clubhouse that anchors a broad range of lifestyle offerings, including a state-of-the-art fitness center, pickleball and bocce ball courts, an outdoor amphitheater, a large resort-style swimming pool, outdoor dining pavilion, and a dedicated Veterans Memorial Park.

Southern Harmony first opened in spring 2024, with construction on the amenity center beginning later that fall. Community leaders say the development will celebrate its first full summer season with the pool and outdoor amenities in operation, culminating in a grand opening event scheduled for May. The complex is considered one of the largest master-planned clubhouse and amenity centers in the greater Nashville region.

The development spans more than 500 acres near Highway 96 and will ultimately include approximately 1,100 homes designed for residents age 55 and older. The property was previously owned by former Rutherford County Mayor Ernest Burgess and his wife Peggy Burgess.

In addition to residential and recreational development, the project includes a public safety component. During the 2022 groundbreaking, Del Webb announced it would donate two acres of land to Rutherford County for the future construction of a public health and safety facility. The building is expected to house Fire Rescue and EMS stations serving that portion of the county.

At the time, former Rutherford County Mayor Bill Ketron called the land donation transformative, noting it would increase Fire Rescue and EMS coverage from 43 percent to 94 percent in that service area, significantly improving emergency response times.

Del Webb also operates active adult communities in Mt. Juliet and Lebanon, with continued demand in Middle Tennessee. Industry observers note there are few comparable 55+ master-planned communities offering this scale of amenities in the region.

Another nearby Del Webb development in neighboring Wilson County has also gained popularity as demand for resort-style retirement living continues to grow across Middle Tennessee.
