MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) — After leading the Warriors’ basketball program since 2015, Riverdale boys head coach Michael Voss is stepping away from the sidelines. The veteran coach is transitioning out of his leadership role on the court to focus on family commitments and a new supportive position within the school's athletic department.
Voss, who has guided the Riverdale boys' basketball team for the past eleven years, cited a desire to be more present for his children's upcoming milestones as a primary factor in his decision. With daughters entering their senior and junior years in high school sports and a young son in elementary school, Voss noted that the time was right to spend more time supporting them.
Riverdale Principal Tamera Blair expressed deep appreciation for the dedication Voss has shown since he first took over the program in 2015. While he will no longer lead the basketball team, Blair confirmed that Voss will remain an integral part of the "Warrior" faculty. In addition to his teaching duties, he will take on an expanded role designed to bolster the school’s various athletic programs, ensuring his experience continues to benefit the wider campus community.
During his tenure, Voss became a staple of the Riverdale coaching staff, earning praise for his commitment to player development and his contribution to the school's athletic tradition. In a statement, Voss shared his gratitude for the players, parents, and administrators who supported the program throughout his eleven seasons, noting that while the decision was difficult, he looks forward to serving the Riverdale community in this new capacity.
The search for a new head coach to lead the boys' basketball program is expected to begin shortly.
