MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) — The Blackman Lady Blaze have punched their ticket to the TSSAA state tournament following a gritty 48-45 victory over Nolensville in the Class 4A sectional round.
Fifth-ranked Blackman (28-3) relied on a balanced scoring effort and defensive resilience to overcome a persistent Nolensville squad. The Lady Blaze held a narrow 22-21 lead at halftime but trailed most of the third quarter. However, they rallied to win the fourth by 8 points and held on for the win. Key contributions from Layla Hall, who led the team with 18 points, and Sam Garner, who added 14, proved to be the difference-makers in the win.
Nolensville fought until the final buzzer, led by Reese Mall’s 15 points, but Blackman’s efficiency at the free-throw line down the stretch secured the three-point win. The Lady Blaze shot 53% from the field for the game, outlasting a Nolensville team that struggled to find consistent rhythm from the floor despite taking 15-more shots than the Lady Blaze.
With this win, Blackman advances to the TSSAA Division I state tournament. They'll open up play in the last 4A game of the day at around 2:15pm versus Collierville Thursday.
While Blackman celebrates a trip to "The Glass House," another local contender saw their season reach its conclusion. Stewarts Creek fell to Page in a 75-27 another sectional matchup, ending a successful run for the Lady Red Hawks.
