Officer‑Involved Shooting Reported After Road Rage Incident in Smyrna

Mar 12, 2026 at 12:43 pm by WGNS News

SMYRNA, TN (WGNS) - A road rage incident around noon Thursday (3/12/2026) in Smyrna escalated quickly, leading to an officer‑involved shooting on S. Lowry Street. Smyrna Police say the incident unfolded just around lunchtime at 201 S. Lowry, where officers were responding to reports of a confrontation between drivers.

During that response, something turned the encounter volatile, and an officer fired, wounding the suspect. The individual was immediately taken to the ER at Stonecrest Medical Center for treatment. Police did not release the person’s name or condition, but emphasized that the scene was secured shortly after the shooting.

Officers on site were not injured, and there was no ongoing threat to the public. Traffic in the area moved slowly for a period of time as investigators worked, but the situation remained contained to the immediate scene.

As is standard procedure in Tennessee, when an officer fires a weapon, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been notified and will take the lead on the case. Their agents will review what led up to the shooting, what happened during the encounter, and all evidence gathered at the scene.

More details are expected once the TBI completes its initial work. NewsRadio WGNS will continue to follow the investigation and share updates as they become available.
