SMYRNA, TN (WGNS) - TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center in Smyrna is celebrating a major milestone after earning the 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ from Healthgrades. The recognition places the hospital among the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for patient safety—its fourth consecutive year receiving the honor. The award is based on complication and mortality rates across 13 patient‑safety indicators at roughly 4,500 hospitals nationwide. Healthgrades uses risk‑adjusted data to identify hospitals that consistently protect patients from preventable harm.
StoneCrest’s recognition doesn’t stop there. The hospital was also recently named one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals, reflecting strong overall clinical performance. It earned additional praise for exceptional outcomes in outpatient joint replacement, orthopedic surgery, critical care, gastrointestinal services and surgery, pulmonary care, surgical care, and stroke care.
Shana Harper, vice president of quality and patient safety at TriStar StoneCrest, said the awards highlight the teamwork behind the scenes. “We are committed to excellence in every action, for every patient, every time,” she said. “Our multidisciplinary team works together each day to strengthen patient safety and deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care. This recognition reflects the dedication of our colleagues and their focus on achieving the best possible patient outcomes.”
TriStar StoneCrest has served Rutherford County since 2003 and operates as a 119‑bed facility offering a full range of acute care services. It was the first hospital in Tennessee to earn verification as an ACS Level III Trauma Center and accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Hernia Surgery. The hospital is also an Accredited Chest Pain Center and a Certified Primary Stroke Center, with services spanning emergency care, cardiology, general surgery, NICU care, orthopedics, neurology, urology, cancer care through Sarah Cannon, and more.
