MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) — Rutherford County landowners will have an opportunity to pick up free tree seedlings later this month as part of an annual conservation effort aimed at promoting environmental stewardship across the county.

The Rutherford County Soil & Water Conservation District will host its Annual Tree Seedling Giveaway on March 19, 2026, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Lane Agri Park Complex, located at 315 John R. Rice Blvd., Suite 150 in Murfreesboro.

Officials said the event will provide bare-root tree seedlings to local landowners on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of five seedlings per person.

The giveaway is designed to encourage residents to plant trees that benefit both the environment and the local ecosystem. Available species this year include pin oak, persimmon and native sweet pecan trees.

Weather permitting, distribution will take place outside the Soil & Water Conservation District office. In the event of inclement weather, organizers plan to move operations to the Livestock Barn at the Lane Agri Park Complex.

Conservation officials say planting trees can help improve air quality, reduce soil erosion and provide long-term habitat for wildlife. Events like this also support efforts to maintain green spaces as Rutherford County continues to grow.

Residents with questions about the giveaway can contact the Soil & Water Conservation District office at 615-893-9295, extension 3.
