A business owner that has a property on Ash Street in Murfreesboro reported that his commercial air conditioning unit was stolen. The $8,000 unit was taken over the past 3-days, but no suspects have been named.

While an air-conditioning unit may sound like an odd item to steal, there have been several air conditioning thefts reported in the past 6-months in and around Murfreesboro. The reason for the thefts? Copper.

Copper is selling for about $3.00 a pound. We are told there is typically only 15 to 30-pounds of copper tubing inside an average air-conditioning unit. 30-pounds of copper multiplied by $3 a pound adds up to only $90.
