
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) — The state tournament quarterfinals at the Murphy Center provided a day of high-stakes basketball for Rutherford County teams on Thursday.

The Eagleville Eagles continued their historic, undefeated march by holding off Pickett County in a 69-66 barnburner. This victory was the third time the Eagles bested the Bobcats this year, following a regular-season series that included a legendary four-overtime thriller. James Bega led the charge with 24 points, including five three-pointers, while Camden Cole added 24 points and went 10-of-11 from the free-throw line to seal the win. Eagleville (32-0) now prepares for a semifinal showdown against 4th-ranked Humboldt.

In Class 4A action, the Blackman Blaze faced a formidable challenge in Memphis-based Whitehaven. Despite a competitive first half where the Blaze trailed by only eight points, Whitehaven’s defensive pressure proved insurmountable in the later stages. Blackman was limited to just seven points in the third quarter and nine in the fourth, finishing the game with a 29.4% shooting average from the field. Dorien Lyles paced the Blaze with 10 points in the 71-41 loss. Blackman concludes a stellar season with a 27-5 record and a deep run into the state tournament bracket.
