STUFF THE BUS - United Way Campaign

Jun 26, 2013 at 08:31 pm by Bryan Barrett

Ford of Murfreesboro has joined with United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties and over twenty area businesses for the second annual Stuff the Bus campaign to promote literacy and reading proficiency in children pre-K through 3rd grade in Rutherford and Cannon Counties. Through the Stuff the Bus program Ford of Murfreesboro has donated $3,000 to build 300 literacy kits and will be helping to collect school supplies and new or gently used books to create additional kits for up to one thousand children. The Stuff the Bus program is working to increase the reading level of 3rd graders from the 46% of students who were reading at proficiency level in 2012. The impact of the Stuff the Bus program helps to raise the probability that a child reading at a proficient level by 3rd grade will graduate from high school as referenced in a study posted on www.tn.gov.

The community can become involved in the Stuff the Bus program by bringing any of the following items to the Ford of Murfreesboro, located at 1550 N.W. Broad Street, showroom between now and July 25, 2013. The items needed to build a literacy kit are scissors, wide ruled paper, craft paper or handwriting paper, crayons, pencils, markers, stickers, glue sticks, Playdough and new or gently used books suitable for children 3rdgrade or younger.
