Murfreesboro Fire-Rescue Offers FREE CPR Class for Citizens May 30th

MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS) - Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department is once again putting lifesaving skills directly into the hands of the community. They will host a free Citizens CPR Class on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 9 to 11 a.m. at 1930 Memorial Blvd. inside the Airport Business Center. The class is open to anyone who wants to feel more confident in an emergency — parents, babysitters, caregivers, teachers, restaurant workers, lifeguards, or simply neighbors who want to be ready to help. Fire officials say the goal is simple: give everyday people the tools to act before first responders arrive.

Participants will learn adult, child, and infant CPR, how to properly use an Automated External Defibrillator, and techniques for relieving choking. It’s the kind of hands‑on training that can make the difference in those first critical minutes of a medical emergency.

Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department has emphasized for years that bystander action saves lives. In previous community classes, instructors have shared that most cardiac arrests happen outside a hospital, and survival rates rise dramatically when someone nearby starts CPR right away. That’s why the department continues to offer these free sessions — to build a community where more people feel prepared to step in.

The class is designed for beginners, but even those who’ve taken CPR before often use the opportunity as a refresher. Instructors walk participants through each step, answer questions, and give everyone time to practice the skills until they feel comfortable.

Fire-Rescue leaders say they hope residents will take advantage of the opportunity, especially as the city continues to grow. More people trained means more potential lifesavers in homes, workplaces, and public spaces across Murfreesboro.

The event is free, but space is limited, and the department encourages early participation. For anyone who has ever wondered whether they’d know what to do in an emergency, this class offers a chance to learn, practice, and walk away with confidence.
