Comfort Zone Camp Offers Healing and Hope for Grieving Children

NASHVILLE, TN (WGNS) - A nationally recognized bereavement camp that has helped more than 25,000 children is coming to Middle Tennessee this fall, offering a free weekend of healing, connection, and traditional camp fun for kids who have experienced the death of someone close to them. Comfort Zone Camp, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, will host its Nashville‑area camp October 16–18 at Camp Widjiwagan on Percy Priest Lake.

Comfort Zone Camp serves children ages 7 to 17, young adults ages 18 to 25, and also offers separate programming for parents and guardians. The organization specializes in supporting kids who have lost a parent, sibling, primary caregiver, or significant person in their lives. All programs are completely free of charge, removing financial barriers for families navigating grief.

Since 1999, Comfort Zone Camp has created a safe, nurturing space where children can enjoy the kinds of activities you’d expect at summer camp—ziplining, horseback riding, swimming, and exploring the outdoors—while also gaining tools to help them cope with loss. Through trust‑building activities and age‑based support groups, campers are able to break through the emotional isolation that grief often brings.

This year’s Tennessee camp will be held at Camp Widjiwagan, located at 3088 Smith Springs Road near the Rutherford‑Davidson County line. The 320‑acre property sits along Percy Priest Lake and offers a wide range of outdoor experiences designed to help kids reconnect with joy, confidence, and community.

As Comfort Zone Camp prepares to bring its program to this area, the organization is hoping to spread the word to families who could benefit—and to volunteers who want to support the weekend experience. Staff emphasize that no child should have to navigate grief alone, and the camp’s mission is to make sure every participant feels seen, supported, and understood.

Families or volunteers interested in learning more can contact Comfort Zone Camp at (804) 377‑3430 or info@comfortzonecamp.org.

The organization’s message is simple: healing happens when kids have a place to be themselves, share their stories, and rediscover hope.
