La VERGNE, TN (WGNS) - A 7-year-old child reported missing in a custodial interference case has been located safely in Alabama, and the non-custodial parent involved is now in custody. The incident began when La Vergne Police officers received a report of a possible custodial interference Friday evening (3/27/2026). Investigators quickly obtained a felony warrant and initiated an Endangered Child Alert. Through coordinated efforts and continuous communication between multiple law enforcement agencies across jurisdictions, the child was located and confirmed to be unharmed.
“This is exactly why we invest in tools and partnerships that help us respond quickly when a child’s safety is at risk,” Police Chief Christopher Moews said. “Our Automatic License Plate Reader technology played a critical role in helping our investigators track the vehicle involved. It allowed us to locate the child quickly and safely.”
Flock Safety license plate reader technology provided investigators with timely information that helped identify and track the vehicle associated with the case, significantly narrowing the search area and accelerating the response.
The successful outcome was the result of combined efforts by all agencies involved, with real-time information sharing and coordinated decision-making playing a key role throughout the investigation.
A referral to the Department of Children’s Services was completed, and arrangements were made for the child to be placed with appropriate family members in accordance with the court order.
The La Vergne Police Department credited the outcome to strong collaboration between agencies and the rapid sharing of information.
“When combined with strong interagency communication and coordination, our technology made all the difference in bringing this case to a safe resolution,” said Chief Moews.
Anyone with information regarding a missing or endangered child is encouraged to contact law enforcement immediately. Quick reporting and community awareness are critical in ensuring a safe recovery.
