UPDATED: Murfreesboro, TN — WGNS has learned new details in a homicide investigation stemming from a shooting that left a 35-year-old woman dead two weeks ago and led to the arrest of a male suspect.
According to the Murfreesboro Police Department, a man who had turned 33 just seven days prior to the incident is accused in connection with the victim’s death. The woman was found inside a mobile home at 135 Fairfax Drive, a property that includes approximately a dozen neighboring units. The location is near the intersection of Jackson Road, directly across from the Compton Road entrance to the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center.
Police say the shooting appears to be an isolated incident... That was MPD Chief Michael Bowen, who also noted the situation posed no ongoing threat to the broader community...
The investigation began when officers responded to a report of an unresponsive woman at the Fairfax Drive residence. Upon arrival, officers entered the mobile home and discovered the victim deceased with at least one apparent gunshot wound. Detectives with the MPD Violent Crimes Unit were called to the scene to further investigate. Following their preliminary findings, authorities determined the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death were consistent with a homicide.
As the investigation developed, detectives identified 33-year-old Arthur Moore as the primary suspect. Patrol officers later located Moore and took him into custody without incident. He was transported to the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, where he was formally charged with second-degree murder.
WGNS has confirmed that approximately nine days before his arrest, Moore was served with a civil summons tied to a 2021 interstate child support case involving the Tennessee Department of Human Services. In Tennessee, such cases typically involve the enforcement or establishment of child support obligations when the custodial parent and child reside in a different state than the non-custodial parent.
Court records further show that nearly four years prior to the recent arrest, Moore faced a domestic assault charge. That case resulted in a guilty plea, supervised probation, and completion of 12 hours of court-ordered anger management classes.
Investigators noted that Moore resides at the Vintage Gateway apartment complex in Murfreesboro, located near Medical Center Parkway and Robert Rose Drive. That location is less than one mile from The Avenue shopping area and approximately 6.5 miles south of the Fairfax Drive address where the victim was found.
Moore remains incarcerated at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. During a hearing held in late March, the case was continued and is now scheduled to return to court on April 15, 2026. Authorities say the homicide investigation remains ongoing.
