MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS NEWS) — Detectives with the Murfreesboro Police Department are investigating an early morning attempted ATM theft involving multiple suspects and two stolen pickup trucks. Above is video 1 and you can scroll down for video 2.
The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. Friday at a Chase Bank location on Memorial Boulevard. Responding officers discovered a red pickup truck still at the scene, with a heavy-duty gold chain attached to a severely damaged ATM.
A short time later, officers located a second vehicle—a black pickup truck—abandoned in a nearby neighborhood near Haynes Haven Lane and James Drive. That truck also had a chain connected, suggesting it was used in the same attempt. Investigators later confirmed both vehicles had been stolen out of Davidson County.
According to detectives, the suspects used a coordinated method, attaching chains from both trucks to the ATM and surrounding protective bollards. The vehicles were then used simultaneously in an effort to rip the machine from its foundation. While the suspects caused significant damage, they were ultimately unable to access any cash inside the ATM.
The investigation remains active as authorities work to identify those responsible and determine how the suspects fled the area.
Police are asking residents in the Haynes Haven Lane and James Drive areas to review any available doorbell or surveillance footage that may capture suspicious activity or vehicles connected to the incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Aaron Gonzalez at 629-201-5638.
