UPDATED: MURFREESBORO, TN – It appears that a Murfreesboro murder case is gaining momentum in the Rutherford County Judicial System as it moves closer to trial... That was Assistant Rutherford County District Attorney Trevor Lynch.

28-year-old Juan Charco and his brother were allegedly hauling a four-door sedan from Atlanta to Murfreesboro that reportedly belonged to the gunned down victim, Devon Loritts from Marietta, Georgia... 23-Year-old Loritts and brother Eric Mitchell confronted Charco when they pulled off of I-24 and stopped at a gas station on Joe B. Jackson Parkway, which is where a fight ensued.

After a short struggle, Loritts, who was reportedly armed with a gun, recovered his Chrysler 300. But before Loritts and his brother could drive the car out of the 7-Eleven parking lot, Charco is accused of retrieving a rifle from his vehicle and opening fire on the two men...

MPD arrived on the scene, locating the victims in the shooting. Lifeflight was called to transport the victims to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. While Loritts brother Eric Mitchell was injured by gunfire but survived, Loritts (alleged owner of the Chrysler 300) was killed. The death led to the first degree murder charge being filed against Charco, along with the attempted murder of his brother.

Investigators confirmed that a security camera captured much of the incident on video, and detectives reviewed the video as part of their investigation.

A status conference will be held on Tuesday of this week, April 7, as both the defendant and the State further prepare for trial. Again, the case will be in the Rutherford County Courts for trial on August 3, 2026. Judge Barry Tidwell will reside over the trial.
