MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Murfreesboro City Schools has announced the appointment of Kimberly Hix as the new principal of Cason Lane Academy, with her new role set to begin in the 2026–27 academic year.

The selection follows what district officials described as an extensive and collaborative interview process. The committee—comprised of teachers from Cason Lane Academy, a parent representative, and central office staff—unanimously identified Hix as the top candidate for the position.

Director of Schools Dr. Trey Duke praised Hix’s leadership qualities, highlighting her strong instructional background and the relationships she has cultivated throughout her career. He noted that her ability to connect with students, staff, and families played a key role in the committee’s decision.

Hix brings more than a decade of experience within Murfreesboro City Schools. She has served as assistant principal at Cason Lane Academy for the past four years and previously spent seven years teaching at Scales Elementary School. Her tenure reflects a consistent commitment to the district and its students.

Her appointment also carries personal significance. Hix is a former student of Cason Lane Academy, making her return as principal a full-circle moment. Throughout her career, she has earned recognition as a Teacher of the Year and was selected to participate in the TSIN Innovative Leaders Institute, underscoring her dedication to professional growth and innovation in education.

District leadership expressed confidence that Hix will continue to build on the school’s existing success and guide it into the future. Meanwhile, Murfreesboro City Schools officials confirmed that a search for a new assistant principal will begin immediately to support the transition.
