SMYRNA, Tenn. (WGNS)- Local officials joined Nissan executives Thursday to mark a major milestone for the Rutherford County economy. Workers at the Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant officially began production of the 2027 INFINITI QX65. This luxury midsize SUV is the first all-new nameplate for the brand in years.

Plant Vice President Brian Crockett and Regional Senior VP David Johnson spoke at the "Job 1" event. They praised the workforce for their dedication to quality and innovation. Since 1983, the Smyrna team has launched 13 other vehicles.

The Nissan facility remains a massive driver for the local community. It currently employs more than 6,500 people and has the capacity to build 640,000 vehicles a year. Of the 21 J.D. Power Awards earned by Nissan, 17 belong to vehicles made right here in Smyrna. The new QX65 will hit showroom floors early this summer with a starting price of nearly 54,000 dollars.
