MT. JULIET, Tenn. - North of Rutherford County in neighboring Wilson County, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has made two arrests. What makes this story stand out, is that those arrested were two former Mt. Juliet employees. Evidently, both have been charged with theft, according to information from the investigation by special agents with the TBI, who confirmed the arrests.

At the request of 15th Judicial District Attorney General Jason Lawson, TBI agents began investigating allegations of theft involving 55-year-old Marshall Taylor (DOB 5/26/1970) and 28-year-old River Johnson (DOB 7/3/1997). The investigation focused on the unauthorized sale of city-owned property to an online, third-party vendor, a breach of public trust that prompted the state-level probe.

On Tuesday, agents presented evidence to a Wilson County Grand Jury. Following the presentation, the grand jury returned indictments against both individuals. Taylor faces one count of Theft of Property $2,500-$10,000, one count of Theft of Property $1,000-$2,500, and one count of Tampering with Evidence. Johnson was charged with one count of Theft of Property $1,000-$2,500.

On Friday, Taylor and Johnson turned themselves into the Wilson County Jail. Taylor was booked on a $7,500 bond, while Johnson was booked on a $3,500 bond. Both individuals have since departed city employment as the legal process moves forward.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, which has served as the state's lead law enforcement agency since 1980, spearheaded the case. The TBI remains focused on its core mission to provide forensic and criminal investigative services to local partners to ensure justice is served within Tennessee communities.
