SMYRNA, Tenn. (WGNS) - A serious single-vehicle crash near Smyrna High School snarled traffic for travelers this (Wednesday) morning. The accident occurred on Lee Victory Parkway when a vehicle left the roadway and collided with a utility pole.
Smyrna Police Department officers restricted Lee Victory Parkway to a single lane for several hours to investigate the aftermath. While one southbound lane between Bulldog Drive and McWilliams Drive eventually reopened, authorities kept McWilliams Drive and the westbound lanes of Nissan Drive at Bulldog Drive closed to all traffic.
The heavy police presence and lane restrictions caused a slow-growing backup that impacted parents and staff arriving at the high school. Investigators spent the morning mapping the crash site to understand what caused the driver to swerve off the road.
