MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - A historic downtown landmark is sporting a fresh look thanks to a local partnership. The Main Street Murfreesboro Board of Directors recently met with the team at The Walnut House to present a 5,000 dollar check for a property enhancement grant. Owner David Cavallin and General Manager Ricky Martini accepted the funds following the completion of exterior renovations this spring.

The grant helped cover the costs of replacing the building’s front doors and windows at 116 North Walnut Street. This location has served many purposes over the years and currently operates as an event venue for weddings, corporate meetings, and community fundraisers. Cavallin says the new facade helps the business better represent the charm of the historic district while attracting visitors from across the region to Rutherford County.

Local business owners interested in similar upgrades can now apply for the 2026 grant cycle. Main Street Murfreesboro is accepting applications through May 11 for projects that improve building exteriors or public safety. This is a reimbursement program that requires a dollar for dollar match from the property owner. The board will announce the next winners by June 8.
