MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Detectives with the Murfreesboro Police Department are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man suspected in a vehicle theft reported at a local hotel earlier this month. The hotel where the crime unfolded, sits on South Church Street near the Interestate 24 interchange.

According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday, April 21, at the Knights Inn located on South Church, where an unidentified male allegedly stole a pickup truck parked on the property. Evidently, the truck was an older model pickup, appearing to be either a Chevrolet S-10 or it's GMC counterpart, an S-15. Videos outside the hotel show the truck was a faded blue color with several rust spots visible on the hood of the vehicle. The model year of the pickup was manufactured between 1981 and 1993.

Surveillance images released by investigators (scroll down for video footage) provide a clearer look at the suspect both outside and inside a nearby business. Exterior footage shows a man walking along the side of the Knights Inn building before entering the parking lot area where several vehicles were parked, including the older-model pickup truck that was beleived to have been stolen.

The suspect is described as a thin white male of average height, wearing a dark long-sleeve shirt with a maroon T-shirt layered over it. Surveillance footage also shows him in blue jeans and a baseball cap, with what appears to be an additional article of clothing draped over his left shoulder.

Additional interior surveillance images captured what appears to be the same individual inside a convenience store. In that footage, the man is seen wearing the same maroon t-shirt over a long sleeve shirt and a black ball cap worn backwards. He is also observed holding a small item in his right hand while standing near a display case. Investigators believe these images may help the public better recognize the suspect’s appearance and clothing.

On Thursday afternoon, MPD Assistant Public Information Officer Dana J. Smith confirmed to WGNS that the faded blue pickup truck seen in the video footage (scroll down to view) is the same vehicle allegedly stolen by the suspect captured on surveillance cameras at the Knights Inn. The video was released by authorities. The investigation remains active as detectives continue working to identify the individual involved.
