Mother Thanks First Responders After Missing 3-Year-Old Found Near Smyrna Home

SMYRNA, Tenn. (WGNS)- A Rutherford County mother is thanking first responders after her 3-year-old son was quickly found Friday after wandering away from home near Almaville Road.

According to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, Josias Gonzales was missing for about 30 to 45 minutes near his Smyrna home. His mother, DiLani Cassity, told authorities the child was accompanied by a black Labrador dog when he wandered away. Deputies with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services medics and Smyrna Police joined the search. Smyrna Police located Josias quickly, according to the sheriff’s office.

“They were so understanding and so empathetic to my situation,” Cassity said in a statement shared by the sheriff’s office. “I can only imagine what they truly go through.”

Cassity also shared a photo to recognize the responders for their care and compassion.

The photo shows Rutherford County EMS Paramedic Maggie Allen holding Josias after he was found. Also pictured were K9 Deputy Richard Tidwell, Paramedic Blake Tomlison, Deputy Ron Killings, Deputy Anna Olson and Deputy Garrett Drake, according to RCSO.

No injuries were reported in the sheriff’s office post.
