SMYRNA, Tenn. (WGNS) - The Town of Smyrna has a new face leading its legal team. Officials announced Wednesday that Kyle Evans will serve as the new Town Attorney, bringing decades of Rutherford County experience to the position.

Evans is a familiar name in Midstate public safety circles. He began his career with the MTSU Police Department in 1999 before moving to the Murfreesboro Police Department in 2002. During his time in Murfreesboro, he served as a sergeant and the primary department spokesman.

His legal resume is equally extensive. Evans served as General Counsel for the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office and worked as the Director of Handgun Permits for the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security. He also spent time as a law clerk for Circuit Court Judge Royce Taylor and worked in private practice.

Mayor Mary Esther Reed says Evans is an outstanding fit for the community. She noted that his mix of legal expertise and law enforcement experience will strengthen the town's commitment to public service.

Evans is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has shared his knowledge with the next generation as an adjunct professor at both Motlow State and Tennessee State University. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from MTSU and his law degree from the Nashville School of Law.
