RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WGNS News) - Looking for new ideas on how to transform your backyard into a relaxing oasis? Area residents can soak up inspiration during the 34th Annual Secret Garden Tour, presented by The Discovery Center. This year's event is approaching fast and is set to take place on June 6 and 7 in Murfreesboro... That was Master Gardener Carol Wood.

The Secret Garden Tour offers a rare opportunity to step inside some of Murfreesboro’s most beautiful, but usually private, gardens... Master Gardener Sarah Wade will also be at the tour and is excited to see the hidden gems that have been thoughtfully cultivated and generously shared by local homeowners.

One of the most appealing factors of the Secret Garden Tour each year is that visitors get to quietly walk through carefully planned landscapes that some homeowners have spent—literally years—creating... Your leisurely walk through the gardens will likely inspire some to become their own landscape architects, in a sense.

Guests are invited to wander, explore, and find inspiration in these intimate outdoor spaces while celebrating the art of gardening and community... Proceeds from the Secret Garden Tour directly support the Discovery Center, helping provide engaging, hands-on learning experiences for children and families throughout our region.

One featured Master Gardener has spent the past eight years transforming a once-open yard into a vibrant botanical retreat filled with colorful perennials, flowering trees, shrubs, and native plants that attract pollinators throughout the seasons. The garden also serves as a tribute to her late father, an avid gardener from Indiana; many of his cherished plants—including his beloved daylilies—continue to bloom in Middle Tennessee as living reminders of his passion for gardening.

Another featured home showcases the evolving gardens of the Young family, who revived a neglected landscape filled with overgrown shrubs and damaged flower beds after purchasing their property. Over time, with help from family, neighbors, local gardening resources, and plenty of dedication, the yard has grown into a constantly changing display of hydrangeas, vegetables, shade gardens, flowering plants, and whimsical touches that reflect the family’s creativity and love of gardening.

In Murfreesboro’s Regenwood neighborhood, visitors will also find the cheerful yellow home of Pheang and Terry, surrounded by a lively garden overflowing with colorful flowers and greenery. Known for her warm personality and welcoming smile, Pheang spends her days carefully tending the blooms, pruning plants, and nurturing the landscape that has become a bright spot along Banner Drive.

Those gardens represent just a small sampling of the homes and landscapes featured during this year’s tour.
