MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - The crack of the bat and the cheers of the crowd will sound a little different at Oaklands Mansion this summer. The Tennessee Association of Vintage Base Ball is officially in full swing for the 2026 season. Murfreesboro’s own club, the Stones River Scouts, just released their home schedule for local fans.
The team plays "America's Pastime" exactly as it looked during the Civil War era. These "ballists" wear period-accurate uniforms and follow the rules of 1864. You won't see any gloves on the field because players catch the ball with their bare hands. In this version of the game, an out is recorded even if the ball bounces once before the catch. There are also no strikes or balls called on the batter.
The Scouts have three major dates set for their home grounds at Oaklands Park. The action starts on May 30th at 2 PM. Fans can also catch a game on July 19th at 2 PM. The season wraps up with a high-energy doubleheader on August 8th starting at 1 PM.
Organizers invite the community to bring lawn chairs and blankets to the mansion grounds for these family-friendly events. The games offer a unique way to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States. You can cheer on local players with nicknames like "Biscuit," "Gravy," and "Jessie's Girl." Admission to all Scouts home games is free. For more details on the league or the Murfreesboro team, visit tennesseevintagebaseball.com.
