MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - A Murfreesboro teacher is in the running for a major state honor. Murfreesboro City Schools announced that Ms. Amy Jackson is a semi-finalist for the 2026-27 Tennessee Teacher of the Year awards. Jackson earned the spot after being named a Mid-Cumberland CORE Regional Teacher of the Year.

Jackson works as a gifted specialist. She splits her time between Discovery School and Erma Siegel Elementary. She teaches students from kindergarten through the sixth grade. Her work focuses on helping students think critically and solve complex problems.

Director of Schools Dr. Trey Duke praised Jackson for her dedication. He says her love for her students is evident in everything she does. Duke noted that Jackson approaches her work with enthusiasm and makes a real difference in the lives of Murfreesboro children.

Jackson has spent more than 20 years in education. Beyond the classroom, she helps lead district programs like the Gifted Academy. She is also continuing her own education through advanced studies in leadership. The Tennessee Department of Education picks these semi-finalists from eight different regions across the state.
