MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Rutherford County sports teams made a massive statement on day one of the TSSAA Spring Fling championships.
Over at the McKnight Softball Complex and heard on WGNS, the Stewarts Creek Lady Red Hawks flexed their muscles against east Tennessee powerhouse Farragut. Stewarts Creek used timely hitting and solid defense to walk away with a 5 to 3 victory. Meanwhile, the Eagleville softball team crushed Bradford in an 18-1 blowout.
On the baseball diamond, the Eagleville Eagles started their state title run with a thrilling 3 to 2 win over Gordonsville. The Eagles held off a late push to advance in the winner's bracket.
On the soccer pitch, the Siegel Stars put on a clinic at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex. The Stars defense stifled Collierville completely, while the offense found the back of the net four times for the 4-0 shutout.
State tournament action continues throughout the week at venues across Murfreesboro and Rutherford County.
