SMYRNA, Tenn. - (WGNS) - The Town of Smyrna is reflecting on a decade of remembrance, unity, and healing with the release of a new short documentary. The film looks back at the aftermath of June 2, 2016, when U.S. Marine Captain and Blue Angels pilot Jeff Kuss tragically lost his life during a practice flight for the Great Tennessee Air Show.

In the wake of the heartbreak, the Rutherford County community responded with an overwhelming wave of compassion and local support. Local citizens, military veterans, civic groups, and businesses joined forces with supporters nationwide to fund and construct the Captain Jeff Kuss USMC Memorial. The documentary utilizes personal reflections and community voices to tell the story of the people who made the lasting tribute a reality.

Smyrna Mayor Mary Esther Reed noted that the film truly focuses on the extraordinary spirit of the community. Reed stated that the memorial stands today as a permanent reminder of what is possible when people come together for something greater than themselves.
