MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - A morning fire brings a heavy emergency response to a Murfreesboro apartment complex. Murfreesboro Fire Rescue crews rushed to the Nottingham Apartments on Greenland Drive just before 7 a.m. Monday. Engine 3 arrived first on the scene and found heavy smoke and flames pouring from a second-floor unit.

Firefighters quickly entered the building to attack the flames while other crews searched the structure and evacuated neighbors. Officials say the fire started on a back patio and rapidly spread into the attic. Crews controlled the blaze quickly and kept it from destroying the rest of the building.

The fire damaged two apartment units. One unit suffered significant fire damage, and a second unit sustained water damage. All other residents safely returned to their homes later in the morning. No one was injured in the incident. The American Red Cross is now assisting the displaced residents, and the MFRD Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
