MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -  Music, dancing, food, and community art will take center stage in downtown Murfreesboro this week as the first Friday Night Live concert of the season kicks off on Friday, June 5, on the historic public square.

Headlining the free event will be The Piano Men, a high-energy tribute band known for performing crowd-favorite hits from legendary artists Billy Joel and Elton John. Organizers say concertgoers can expect a lively evening filled with sing-alongs and dancing along Maple Street on the west side of the square.

Road closures around the public square will begin at 5:00 p.m., with live music scheduled from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy the outdoor concert atmosphere in the heart of downtown Murfreesboro.

Along with the live entertainment, visitors will have the opportunity to take part in a special America 250 community art project. Guests can paint a tile using provided materials, including paints, brushes, and tiles. The artwork will later become part of a mural mosaic commemorating America’s 250th anniversary.

The mural will be displayed on Shacklett’s Photography building at the corner of College and Main Street near the square. Tile painting stations will be located in front of Whiskey Dix along North Public Square. Organizers plan to unveil the completed mural during the July 3 Friday Night Live concert at 6:00 p.m.

Downtown restaurants will remain open throughout the evening, while additional food trucks will begin serving customers outside the Rutherford County Courthouse after 5:00 p.m.

Free parking will also be available at two nearby garages, including the City Hall and Linebaugh Public Library parking garage off Church and Vine Streets, as well as the Rutherford County Judicial Building parking garage with entrances off Walnut Street and Maple Street.

Portable restrooms will be available in the parking lot off East Main Street across from the former Bank of America building.

Friday Night Live is presented by Wilson Bank and supported by Murfreesboro Nissan, Hoffman Brothers, Xfinity, A/C Plus, the Rutherford County Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Tennessee Arts Commission.
