MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Oaklands Mansion is welcoming Rutherford County residents back to its grounds this Friday (June 5th), for the annual Lightning Bugs and Lemonade event. The evening runtime stretches from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, offering a mix of outdoor education, local art, and live entertainment.
Devin Weaver, an upcoming junior at Oakland High School and Milton native, provides the soundtrack for the night. Weaver plans to perform a blend of bluegrass, old country, and Americana music on the mansion’s back patio.
The event features two distinct outdoor educational paths. Master Gardener Connor Moss leads guests on a guided tour of the arboretum to share insight on the historic property's plant life. For those interested in local wildlife, a separate after-dark walk explores the nocturnal ecosystem along the woodchip trail and wetlands.
Middle Tennessee makers will also showcase their work on the grounds. Jennifer Gelvin of A Magickal Garden will display native preserved insect species and manage a live bug-viewing area. Filomena Palmer of Filomena's Flowers will present jewelry crafted from dried flowers and speak to guests about the history of botanical symbolism.
The historic mansion will remain open for self-guided tours after dark, with staff available throughout the home to answer questions. Twist and Taste Bakery will sell gourmet soft pretzels and fair-style lemonade during the event. Admission costs $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 6 to 17.
