Looking Good Isn’t Cheap: Murfreesboro P-D Say Fashionable Pair Walked Out with Thousands in Merchandise

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS News) - Fashion trends may come and go, but according to Murfreesboro Police, one stylish shopper may have taken “retail therapy” a bit too literally. Now, authorities are asking for the public’s help identifying a man who was armed with a smile, a touch of confidence, and a beach-ready shark-print shirt. The button-down style was the perfect look for long walks on the beach, chilled cocktails with friends, or even – as in this case, a casual day of shopping.

Investigators with the MPD say the sharply dressed gentleman allegedly entered the retailer alongside an unidentified female companion. But exactly who were these runway-ready bargain hunters?

Highlighting how remarkably efficient the day was, police claim the pair navigated the retailer like seasoned beauty consultants. Authorities allege the visit lasted five minutes or less, yet somehow resulted in more than $3,000 worth of cosmetics and beauty products reportedly leaving at nearly the exact same moment as the smiling visitors.

For those keeping score at home, that calculates to roughly $600 per minute in missing cosmetics, fragrances, and beauty supplies. Somewhere, a rewards card probably just fainted.

Since the destination caters to cosmetics, skincare, and luxury self-care, it only seemed fair to acknowledge the wardrobe choices involved in the alleged caper. Police photos show the male suspect sporting what appears to be a Hugo Boss vacation-style shirt from the company’s “Eligino” collection. The relaxed-fit apparel features not only shark graphics, but 100% cotton construction - - ideal for tropical weather with maximized flexibility for rapid shelf-to-bag maneuvers.

Meanwhile, the female shopper appeared to have opted for a more understated approach with a black GUESS-brand T-shirt featuring shiny gold “GUESS Los Angeles” lettering across the front. Fashion experts may call it casual chic. Detectives are currently calling it evidence.

According to a social media post released by police, the alleged theft occurred Tuesday, May 19. Anyone who recognizes either individual is encouraged to contact Detective Kyle Ferree at 629-201-5628 or by email at 1220@murfreesborotn.gov. A well-timed tip could help investigators close the case before the summer wardrobe season peaks.

Police did not say whether the suspects stopped for smoothies afterward, but based on the wardrobe choices, investigators probably wouldn’t rule it out. Photos of subjects released by the MPD.
