Traffic Backs Up as MPD Work the Scene Friday on Haynes Dr.

MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS) - Drivers easing along Haynes Drive late Friday (6/12/2026) morning couldn’t help but slow down and “rubberneck”. A white Chevy pickup had plowed straight into the end of a guardrail at Sinking Creek, ripping out roughly a 10‑foot section and leaving the metal twisted like a ribbon. Murfreesboro Police were already there, guiding both directions of traffic through a single open lane as cars stacked up.

Public Information Officer Larry Flowers told WGNS News that the call was received at 11:49AM.  were dispatched at 11:49AM.  What they found was a simple but dramatic property‑damage crash: a pickup versus a guardrail. Flowers said the driver wasn’t hurt, the truck was towed away, and the city’s street department was notified so repairs could begin.

Residential roads with curves, narrow shoulders, and plenty of distractions tend to see their share of these incidents.

What stood out Friday morning was the force of the impact. Modern guardrail end terminals are designed to crumple and absorb energy rather than spear a vehicle but tearing out a 10‑foot section still signals a pretty hard hit — especially on a road posted for 30 miles per hour. Even so, this one ended the way you hope they all do: no injuries, no ambulance, just a damaged rail and a long line of curious drivers inching past the scene.

Murfreesboro Police are reminding drivers to keep their focus where it belongs — on the road. Officers say too many crashes start with simple distractions: fiddling with the radio, checking a text, grabbing a snack, or anything else that pulls your eyes away for even a moment. Their message is pretty simple and worth repeating on a busy Middle Tennessee roadway: stay alert, stay steady, and get where you’re going in one piece. Drive carefully and arrive alive.
