MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS) - Drivers in Murfreesboro are getting a mid‑week headache thanks to an all‑day shutdown on Middle Tennessee Boulevard. NewsRadio WGNS has been warning motorists to steer clear of the CSX railroad crossing at South Church Street, and now the closure is officially underway. CSX crews shut the roadway down early Wednesday morning, June 17, and it’s expected to stay closed for a full 24 hours. If all goes according to plan, the stretch should reopen Thursday, June 18.
The closure is tied to emergency repair work on what CSX describes as a widening gauge in the crossing—something that can’t wait and requires the entire roadway to be blocked off. Murfreesboro Police are keeping an eye on traffic in the area, and drivers should be prepared for delays, detours, and the usual confusion that comes with a railroad repair project.
DETOURS ARE IN PLACE (see map above). Work‑zone signs have been placed well in advance, and additional signage is posted along Church Street for northbound and southbound traffic.
It’s not the most convenient situation, especially for anyone who uses that corridor during the morning or evening rush, but the fix is necessary—and thankfully short‑lived. If you can avoid the area altogether today, it’s probably your best bet. Otherwise, pack a little patience and give yourself extra time to get where you’re going.
Middle Tennessee Boulevard should be back to normal Thursday, but for now, the CSX crossing on Middle Tennessee Blvd. at Church Street is a no‑go.
