Murfreesboro Police first reported that the attempted bank robbery suspect, whose truck was located with the help of license plate readers, or LPRs, in Jackson, Tennessee, had been taken into custody. However, it was later learned that he escaped. The man is wanted for the attempted aggravated robbery of Ascend Federal Credit Union on Memorial Boulevard in Murfreesboro on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Although he did not get away with any money, he did get away and headed toward West Tennessee. Scroll down for photos of the suspect as seen in Murfreesboro, and as seen in the Lebanon bank robbery and the Jackson, TN area below.

In Jackson, the man was evidently located by authorities, but managed to maneuver his way out of the grasp of the law. Officers there said the suspect crashed his truck near I-40 and Exit 108 around midnight, as Tuesday turned into Wednesday. It was at that point, about 155 miles west of Murfreesboro, that the man reportedly jumped out of the wrecked truck and continued his efforts to elude police on foot, running into a heavily wooded area. After a six-hour manhunt that stretched well into the overnight hours, the search was placed on hold. His pickup truck, however, was taken into evidence.
WGNS has learned that, in addition to the attempted heist in Murfreesboro, another robbery took place in neighboring Wilson County. Pictures released by Lebanon Police showed suspect George Treece entering Truist Bank on West Main Street Tuesday afternoon around 2:45 p.m., armed with a handgun. Detectives reported that 47-year-old Treece, who is reportedly from Kentucky, proceeded to rob the bank before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash. Scroll down for more photos, with one showing where the suspect crashed.

The suspect left the Lebanon financial institution in a black Chevrolet pickup truck that was missing its rear bumper. The pickup had an Alabama license plate mounted to the right side of the rear tailgate. The plate number on the single-cab, two-door pickup was 8AA2B1X.
While Murfreesboro Police have not confirmed the robberies were carried out by the same suspect, surveillance photos appear to be nearly identical. However, this case may go even deeper and could point to a previous bank robbery that led to an arrest and conviction more than four hours away.
In 2016, Farmers State Bank in Central City, Illinois, was robbed by a man named George David Treece, who at the time lived in Alabama. In 2017, Treece, who was then 38 years old, was convicted and federally sentenced to 115 months behind bars. However, he served only three years in prison before being released on supervised probation. At this point in the Murfreesboro and Lebanon investigations, it has not been confirmed that this is the same George Treece, but some of the similarities appear striking.
