"Bridge Over Broad" Is Now "Blue Raider Bridge"

(MURFREESBORO) At 9:30 Thursday (9/5/2019) morning, officials representing MTSU, the City of Murfreesboro, Rutherford County and state government gathered on land adjacent to the Bridge Over Broad.

With the massive bridge in the background, along with a giant blow-up Blue Raider football helmet behind the speaker's stand, University President, Dr. Sidney A. McPhee, said . . .

Former State Senator and now Rutherford County Mayor Bill Ketron noted that they requested bids for LED lights that would line the bridge . . .

County Commissioner Petus Read, a Blue Raider generational family member, shared what MTSU means to him . . .

Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland, also an MTSU alumni, spoke to the crowd. . .

State Senator Dawn White gave personal memories of how the university's faculty helps to encourage students. . .

Dr. Charlie Baum is not only a state representative, but he is also a professor at MTSU. He commented . . .

A special insignia designating the structure as the BLUE RAIDER BRIDGE was unveliled.

Ketron noted that public donations will be collected by the MTSU Foundation to cover the investment of the "blue LED" lights" on the Blue Raider Bridge.
