The Murfreesboro city manager is proposing to city council acquisition of the First United Methodist Church property from Franklin Synergy Bank. The reasons why range from city input on future development of the property, continuing energy of Lytle Street, a chance of preserving historic elements, and with the proposal being consistent with Murfreesboro 2035. The bank currently rents the building for office use.
Many council members voiced opinions on what they should do with the historic bell tower Methodist church. NewsRadioWGNS' Jackson Jones has more..
We talked with councilman Rick LaLance about what he would do with the church..
LaLance went on to say, "The city may need it. We need more library space. Our library only meets half the states criteria."
Other council members put in their input until finally making a motion to go forward with the acquisition. What will be done with the property has yet to be determined.
