Dr. Larissa Westerfield will serve as the next leader of Stewartsboro Elementary School, Director of Schools Bill Spurlock announced Thursday.

Westerfield succeeds Gary Seymore, who recently announced his retirement.

"Dr. Westerfield has a proven record as an administrator and has the necessary skills and vision to serve the Stewartsboro community," Director Spurlock said. "I have no doubt the school will reach new heights under her leadership."

For the past three years, Westerfield has served as the assistant principal at Cedar Grove Elementary School in La Vergne.

"I am grateful that Mr. Spurlock has given me the opportunity to serve the students, families, teachers and community of Stewartsboro Elementary," Westerfield said. "I am excited to continue Rutherford County's mindset of academic excellence and student-driven decision-making, and I look forward to building relationships with the teachers and families of the Stewartsboro community.

"The opportunity to serve them is a true privilege and honor," she added.

Prior to Cedar Grove, Westerfield served as an ESL, team lead and mentor teacher in Metro Nashville Public Schools. She also taught as an adjunct professor at Vanderbilt University.
