While Rutherford County and the cities within the county are not part of a metro form of government, the county is moving towards integrating fire protection in a new way that has similarities to metro styles.
One of the goals of the new public safety director is for all departments to work as a team. In September, Lauer presented an "Interlocal Cooperation Agreement between the Rutherford County Emergency Communications District and the Rutherford County Emergency Management Agency for emergency communications using the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System," which was approved by the Public Safety Committee.
