Engine 5 was first on-the-scene and reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure. Engine 7, Rescue 9, and Ladders 4, 9 also responded and firefighters began aggressively attacking the fire. The home suffered major damage.

"There were challenges extinguishing the fire," said MFRD Acting Battalion Chief and Training Captain Terry Smith. "The houses are close together and the high winds caused the fire to spread to a neighboring home. Crews quickly extinguished both homes."

The home next door sustained moderate damage to the attic and right side of the structure.

At the first home, four people escaped unharmed--while two cats were seen running from the burning home.

In addition, four persons escaped the fire next door at 5004 Boyd Drive withoutbinjuries.

The Heart of Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting both families.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the MFRD Fire Marshal's Office.

No firefighters were injured.
