(MURFREESBORO) Prevention Coalition for Success is participating in the "19 Days of Activism for the Prevention of Abuse and Violence Against Children and Youth". The public is invited to attend the group's monthly meetings at 3:00 o'clock on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 in the Maple Room of the Murfreesboro Housing Authority at 415 N. Maple St. in Murfreesboro.

This 19 Days of Activism continues through Tuesday, 19, 2019. It is designed to encourage local activities to promote education and awareness to end violence towards children. The mission of Prevention Coalition for Success is to reduce substance abuse and violent crime in Rutherford County.

Substance misuse and child abuse are closely linked and often intergenerational. Children living in a home with a caregiver engaged in substance misuse are at greater risk of child abuse and neglect. Experiencing abuse or trauma as a child increases the risk of substance misuse later in life.

Prevention Coalition for Success works to prevent substance misuse and to build a healthy community. Our activities include promotion of proper disposal of prescription drugs, training sessions to build skills in Rutherford County to prevent substance misuse, town hall events to raise awareness, and educational activities to support healthy youth. To create community change and to achieve these goals, we rely on our valued coalition members and community partners.

The partner organization is the Child Advocacy Center of Rutherford and Cannon Counties, who protect victims of child abuse and for inviting Prevention Coalition for Success to be part of the "19 Days of Activism for the Prevention of Abuse and Violence Against Children and Youth."

Again, the public is encouraged to attend the coalition meetings on the third Wednesday of each month at 3 p.m. in the Maple Room of the Murfreesboro Housing Authority at 415 N. Maple St. in Murfreesboro.
