(MURFREESBORO) Every day, we make choices about how best to protect our local environment and preserve our county, our country and our planet for future generations. Recycling is one important action we all can take.

Middle Point Landfill's General Manager Jeremy Jernigan feels we should focus more on recycling.

Jernigan noted, "Republic Services and Middle Point Landfill believe in this mission. We are committed as a local partner to helping all of us in Rutherford County become better recyclers."

The mid-state native commented, "Recycling has long been acknowledged as key to any effort. Republic Services has put together a website, www.RecyclingSimplified.com, to help families make a real difference in their communities."

"We are fortunate here in Rutherford County that the foundation of a proper recycling operation already exists. Our county offers recycling drop-off centers. Local leaders believe it's the right thing to do and are considering how to expand recycling across the county."

"Most of us have a desire to do our part. Unfortunately, we don't always recycle correctly, and sometimes what we believe is recyclable never actually gets recycled."

Jernigan explained that here are some simple tips for better recycling:

  • Know What To Throw. - Cardboard, paper, metal cans, plastic bottles and jugs are prime candidates for recycling.
  • Empty. Clean. Dry. - One dirty bottle or item can contaminate the contents of an entire recycling truck. Keep your recycling clean, free from contamination and separate.
  • Don't Bag It. - Never put recyclables in containers or bags.

He concluded, "By following these three simple steps, we can all do our part to be better recyclers and protect our planet. Visit RecyclingSimplified.com to learn more about proper recycling as we work together to improve recycling and treat every day as America Recycles Day in Rutherford County and Middle Tennessee."
