The Rutherford County Board of Education will next discuss the middle school rezoning proposal at a public meeting on February 26th beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Rutherford County Schools central office. The School Board hosted a public hearing on the proposal Feb. 11 at Whitworth-Buchanan Middle School in an effort to gather valuable input from parents who are potentially affected.

The School Board has adopted a draft proposal for the rezoning but only for discussion purposes and to collect feedback from parents. Parent feedback is an important part of the rezoning process and will be considered before a final decision is made

A map of the draft proposal is available on WGNSRadio.com, keyword rezoning. Parents with questions about specific addresses should contact enrollment planner Shane Morgan at 615-893-5812.

Rezoning the three middle schools has become necessary because of overcrowding at Oakland Middle School. The school's optimum enrollment size is 850-1,000 students. However, the school's current enrollment is more than 1,100.
