Around 9:05 Friday (9/15/2017) morning, officers responded to 1014 Gunnerson Avenue to investigate a call of a suspicious person armed with a gun. The caller stated that the person was a convicted felon.

When officers arrived, they confronted the subject, who was retreating into the Gunnerson Avenue residence. The subject went to a back room and shot himself. EMS pronounced the subject deceased on the scene.

Murfreesboro Police Sergeant Kyle Evans says while dispatch was in the process of notifying Reeves Rogers to order a lock down, the subject took his own life. The city school nor MTSU went into lock down.

Evans adds, "Please keep the family of the deceased in your thoughts as they are grieving."
