Some Argosy University students displaced by the for-profit institution's decision to close its chain of 22 career schools, including one in Nashville, have begun to reach out to Middle Tennessee State University to express an interest in transferring to the Murfreesboro campus.

Debra Sells, MTSU's vice president of student affairs and vice provost for enrollment and academic services, said interested students must meet MTSU's admissions requirements: Either a 3.0 high school grade-point average, a score of 22 or higher on the ACT, at least a 19 on the ACT with a 2.7 GPA in high school, or at least 24 college-level credit hours with a 2.0 college GPA.

"We welcome Argosy students to take a closer look at MTSU and see what we have to offer," she said. "It is very likely that many credits earned at Argosy can transfer to our university."

The earliest that qualified students could transfer to MTSU would be this summer, Sells said.

Dream Center Education Holdings, which owned Argosy, announced the closures Friday after the U.S. Department of Education cut off federal student loan and grant funds to the institution.
