The Board of the Murfreesboro Half Marathon voted to cancel this year's event due to ongoing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
They went on to say "with the current chaos going on in our world along with the uncertainties in the months to come, it would be an impossible task to properly plan and provide a fun and safe event in October."
The announcement mentioned having no idea what guidelines for a large event might be in October was a big deciding factor in their decision. They said rather than opening registration and hoping for the best, they felt like it was better to make the decision now.
The Middle Half Board added "We realize this decision is very disappointing for many of you and our board members share in that disappointment. This is our 14th year! Traditionally, we donate around $40,000.00 per year to various groups and organizations. Not having our race this year will be difficult for our runners, sponsors and many others."
They did mention the board is currently brainstorming ideas for October 10th this year, which would support running.
