Murfreesboro Reminder: City Property Taxes Due This Month

Dec 03, 2013 at 05:45 am by bryan

FROM THE CITY OF MURFREESBORO: City property taxes are due by Dec. 31 and Finance Director and City Recorder/Treasurer Melissa Wright wants to remind property owners that the penalty for late payment begins accruing January 1 at the rate of 1.5 percent per month, or any portion of a month, applied to the base tax until they are paid.

Property taxes are owed whether the owner receives a bill or not.  Property tax records can be reviewed on line by visiting the city website at www.murfreesborotn.gov/propertytaxlookup.

If not paid, the bill could be turned over to the Rutherford County Chancery Court.

Payments may be made with cash, check, money order, or credit card.  Bank counter checks or two-party checks are not accepted.  Credit card payments can only be made in person and will incur a 3 percent service fee.  Each tax notice has a 5-digit receipt number located in the top left. This number should be written on all checks or money orders.

Payments made by mail should be made payable to the City of Murfreesboro and mailed to P.O. Box 1139, Murfreesboro, TN 37133-1139.

Payments made in person are to be made at City Hall, 1st Floor, Finance Department, 111 West Vine St., and Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Partial property tax payments are accepted.  Low income senior citizen or disabled veterans may qualify for the Property Tax Relief program, a reduction in property taxes.
