(Murfreesboro) Prevention Coalition for Success and Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital would like to announce a Drug Take Back Event at Saint Thomas Rutherford on National Drug Take Back day, Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 9am to 2pm. There will be two locations at Saint Thomas Rutherford to dispose of unused medications. A drop off location will be located outside the main entrance of the hospital and a second location will be inside the main lobby.

Drug take back events serve three important safety and public health purposes. Proper disposal of unused medications prevents diversion of prescription drugs with the potential for abuse. According to the DEA, non-medical use of prescriptions drugs is the second most common form of drug abuse in the United States. Secondly, unused medication in the home can pose a risk to young children who might accidentally ingest the medication. Lastly, properly disposing of unused medication protects our environment and water supply.

"The Prevention Coalition for Success is excited to partner with Saint Thomas Rutherford to offer a drug take back event for Rutherford County. Through this event, we hope to raise awareness of the importance of properly disposing of unused medication." says Sarah Murfree, Prevention Coalition for Success Director.
