Oakland Defeats Blackman; Rematch with Maryville Next Friday

Nov 22, 2019 at 10:48 pm by bryan

Oakland scored 31-unanswered enroute to a 31-14 win over Blackman and will play at Maryville next Friday for a spot in the state championship game.

The Patriots scored a touchdown once in the first quarter and again in the second to lead 14-0 with 21-seconds left in the first half. The Blaze, on the kickoff after the second touchdown, attempted a lateral pass and turned the ball over to Oakland. After a pass play, Michael Turk made a 25-yard field goal to make it 17-0 at the half.

The Patriots took the opening drive of the third quarter methodically down the field, eating up a lot of clock. And with 6:33 to play in the quarter, they gave to ball to senior running back Jordan Brown:

Brown would end the night with 126-yards on 21-carries and that touchdown.

About four minutes later, Patriot senior quarterback Kody Sparks found B.J. Connard open on this long touchdown pass:

Sparks was 6-of-11 passing for 107-yards. He also scored the first touchdown of the game on a quarterback keeper.

Leading 31-0, Blackman in the fourth quarter avoided the shutout with junior quarterback Drew Beam:

Blackman was held to just 141 yards of offense - 134 of that on the ground. Senior running back Antonio Malone had 104-yards on 21-carries and scored the last touchdown of the game.

With the win, Oakland will travel to Maryville for the semifinals next Friday night. Kickoff will be at 6pm, Murfreesboro time. We will have the broadcast on State Farm Prep Football. It's the sixth year in row these two teams have met in the semifinals. The Rebels hold a 3 games to 2 advantage in the semifinal games
