Storms Pack a Punch

Severe thunderstorms packed a punch Wednesday as they rolled through Rutherford County.

The county was under a warning for over an hour as severe storms brought 60 to 70 mile per hour winds and hail.

There were numerous reports of trees down in all areas of the county. Power lines were downed on Bell Street, near MTSU and Jones Boulevard near Northfield Boulevard in Murfreesboro.

Smyrna Police tweeted about reports of power outages that caused traffic lights to not function. Waldron Road in La Vergne near Bridgestone was shut down for a time as live wires were across the roadway.

Middle Tennessee Electric reported about six-thousand without power during the height of the storm. Below photo was taken at midnight, several hours after the storms rolled through the county. Many people were still in the dark hours after.
